The current pay scale for a Grade A Clinical Scientist is £15,793-£19,978 per annum (for trainees in London this is augmented by a London Weighting Allowance of £2,592) on a seven-point scale. Students normally start at or near the bottom and progress up the scale by annual increment. It is for employing authorities to determine at which scale point trainees will commence, based upon candidates' previous experience and qualifications. Some programmes offer a generous bursary and others a combination of salary and bursary. Candidates are strongly advised to clarify funding arrangements with the regional contact (see Appendix II).
In Grade A, the trainee will be entitled to twenty five days of paid annual leave, in addition to the statutory holidays.
Examination fees as well as travel and subsistence costs, for both secondments and attendance at courses, will be paid by the employing authority in many instances.
The current pay scale for a Grade B Clinical Scientist is £20,781-£38,919 and for a Grade C £37,421- £62,312.
